And explain what can be done to reduce this problem.

Sample Answer for Part 2:

  • Band 9 (Expert User):
“One significant environmental issue in my country is air pollution, especially in urban areas like the capital. The problem is mainly caused by emissions from vehicles and factories. It significantly affects people’s health, leading to respiratory diseases like asthma. Additionally, it harms the environment by contributing to climate change. To address this issue, the government could enforce stricter regulations on emissions and promote the use of electric vehicles. Individuals can also help by using public transportation more often.”
  • Band 7 (Good User):
“Air pollution is a big problem in cities here. It’s mostly caused by cars and factories. People living in cities suffer from breathing problems. To reduce this, the government should encourage people to use fewer cars, and more people could take buses or trains instead.”

“I believe some people ignore environmental issues because they either don’t see the immediate effects, or they’re simply unaware of the long-term consequences. People often prioritize short-term gains, such as convenience, over long-term benefits. Governments can raise awareness by incorporating environmental education in schools and implementing public campaigns. Technology has certainly contributed to solving some issues, like renewable energy sources reducing reliance on fossil fuels. However, the most urgent environmental issue today is climate change, which affects everything from agriculture to natural disasters.”
