Explanations + Extra Activities
🌱 1. SHY – This is about personality.
Shy means you feel nervous, quiet, or uncomfortable when you are around new people or speaking in front of others. It’s not because you did something wrong—it’s just how you feel.
✅ Easy Examples:
- She’s shy, so she doesn’t like talking to strangers.
- I was too shy to sing in front of the class.
- He’s shy around girls.
❗Remember:
Being shy is not bad—some people are naturally shy, just like some are talkative.
😳 2. EMBARRASSED – This happens when something small or silly happens and you feel uncomfortable or foolish.
Embarrassed means you feel bad because of a social mistake or because something happened that makes you look silly.
✅ Easy Examples:
- I felt embarrassed when I called my teacher “mom” by accident.
- She was embarrassed when her stomach made a loud noise during the test.
- He felt embarrassed because he slipped on the floor in front of everyone.
❗Tip:
If other people laugh at what happened, or if you laugh later, it’s probably embarrassing, not serious.
🥺 3. ASHAMED – This is stronger than “embarrassed.” It means you feel very bad because you did something wrong or something is seen as wrong by others.
There are two main meanings:
Meaning 1: You did something wrong or hurtful, and you feel bad about it.
✅ Examples:
- He felt ashamed for lying to his parents.
- I was ashamed after cheating on the test.
- She was ashamed of stealing money.
Meaning 2: You feel bad because of something about yourself that others think is bad, even if it’s not wrong.
✅ Examples:
- He felt ashamed of his poor background.
- She felt ashamed of her accent.
- They were ashamed of needing help.
❗Tip:
Ashamed is more serious than embarrassed. It often includes regret or self-blame.
😓 4. GUILTY – You feel guilty when you did something wrong and you know it. It’s similar to “ashamed,” but it’s more about knowing you broke a rule or hurt someone.
✅ Easy Examples:
- I felt guilty for eating the last cookie without asking.
- She felt guilty after yelling at her friend.
