Gifts & Celebrations

Part 1 (4-5 minutes)
Directions: Answer naturally and directly. Aim for 2-3 sentences per answer.

  • Topic: Your Hometown
    • Where is your hometown?
    • What is your hometown famous for?
    • Is your hometown a good place for young people to live?
  • Topic: Gifts
    • Do you enjoy giving gifts or receiving them?
    • What was the last gift you received?
    • Is it difficult to choose a good gift?
  • Topic: Celebrations
    • How do people usually celebrate birthdays in your country?
    • What is an important celebration in your culture?
    • Do you prefer large parties or small gatherings for celebrations?

Part 2 (3-4 minutes)
Directions: You have 1 minute to prepare and should speak for 1-2 minutes.
👉 Describe a gift you gave to someone that took a long time to choose.
You should say:

  • What the gift was
  • Who you gave it to
  • Why it took you so long to choose
    and explain how the person reacted to your gift.

Part 3 (4-5 minutes)
Directions: Discuss the broader themes. Give extended answers (4-6 sentences).

  • Why do people give gifts to each other?
  • How have gift-giving customs changed over time?
  • Is gift-giving an important part of a country’s culture?
  • What is the difference between gifts given to children and gifts given to adults?
  • Do you think expensive gifts are always better than thoughtful ones?
